Online CBT for trauma and PTSD
Trauma and PTSD can leave you on edge, troubled by memories or avoiding reminders long after the danger has passed. Trauma-focused CBT, recommended by NICE for PTSD, helps you make sense of what happened and reduce its hold on your present. I work with adults across the UK online, at a pace that you set.
What it can look like
You may notice some of these. You don’t need all of them to benefit from support.
- Memories, nightmares or flashbacks that feel as if it’s happening again
- Feeling constantly on edge or easily startled
- Avoiding people, places or conversations that remind you
- Trouble sleeping or concentrating
- Feeling numb, detached or unable to trust
- Guilt, shame or anger that won’t shift
How CBT helps with trauma
After something frightening or overwhelming, the mind can get stuck. The memory stays raw and the world can feel unsafe. Avoiding reminders brings short-term relief, and it stops the memory from settling.
Therapy begins with understanding. We look at what you’re experiencing and what keeps it going, and we make sure you’ve ways to steady yourself before any work on the memory itself. From there we work gradually on the memory and on the unhelpful meanings that came with it. You choose how much detail to share.
Your safety comes first
If you are in danger now, call 999. If you cannot keep yourself safe, go to your nearest A&E. NHS 111 is open 24 hours, and Samaritans are on 116 123.
Questions about this
Do I need a PTSD diagnosis?
No. You don’t need a diagnosis to start therapy. You can begin with what you’re experiencing and we make sense of it together.
What if I don’t want to talk about what happened?
You choose how much to share and when. We start with understanding and steadying, and we go at a pace that feels manageable.
Is online therapy suitable for trauma?
Many people find a private, familiar space helps them feel safe enough to begin. It does need a private room and a reliable connection, and we can talk through whether it suits you on the free call.
How soon will I feel better?
Everyone is different. We review progress together at regular points so therapy keeps fitting what you need.
